Between art and history
To enter this fortress is an impressive achievement in itself, as the old stronghold was once considered impregnable. Capital of the former Duchy of Limburg, the village overlooks the Vesdre valley and blazes with beauty on its rocky plateau. The Gothic church of Saint-Georges is the first thing you will see in the middle of the hedgerows of the Pays de Herve and the emerging Ardennes. The church is part of a cultural heritage that takes visitors back to the Middle Ages. In front of it are the charming old houses, all squeezed together around a remarkable square covered with Vesdre pebbles. This preserved centre is classified as an exceptional heritage site of Wallonia.
Other monuments add to this middle-aged heritage: the justice of the peace (Arvô), the ramparts, the fountain of the Virgin and the stone table. Vaulted alleyways intertwine with the houses and make you want to stay and enjoy the olden days and discover the splendid landscapes in the surrounding area. To finish off this jaunt in style, visit the Brasserie Saint-Georges, which offers a wide range of typical regional dishes as well as a menu of over 100 speciality beers. A rare pearl to be discovered.
