To admire the towers of the prestigious castle farm, cross the thousand and one twists and turns of the Molignée and Flavion valleys, the cosy cradles where Falaën is located.
Carrying on through the winding roads leading to the village, you will be surprised to discover so many riches hidden behind these mounts.
The castle farm, the former girls’ school, the old forge, the old brewery – all these buildings and limestone houses have kept the traces of their former use. The whole is structured in a central core around the church. The castle farm, built in the 17th century, has kept its defensive aspect: the three corner towers and the traces of the drawbridge over the moat, replaced by a three-arched bridge. The three towers of the castle impose their majesty on the village and make a mockery of the church clocktower. Which of these towers or the church clocktower will reach higher into the sky? To find out, you have to go 3 km further, to the impressive ruins of the Castle of Montaigle, an exceptional heritage of Wallonia.
A former 14th century count’s residence on a rocky spur, the ruins will bring the castle and the church of Falaën into line! An adjoining museum tells the story of this remarkable medieval site.
