Barbençon, flanked by its medieval castle, opens the doors to the history of marble and glass workers. Its historic centre is brimming with characterful houses, and its lake invites relaxation.
At the origin of the Lords of Barbençon, the village was renowned for its glass and marble work. One of the most typical streets, rue des Marbriers, is a witness to this. Together with the church and presbytery area, it forms the historic heart of Barbençon. The houses of character, made of limestone rubble, are real heritage jewels.
The Gothic-Renaissance church of St. Lambert was restored in the 70s. Its interior bears witness to Barbençon’s rich past: funerary monuments of the great glass and marble masters, a high altar, a baptismal font, etc. Outside, the many historic farms take us back a few centuries: Jette Feuille and its 17th century towers, La Bouverie and La Perruque are outbuildings of the old castle.
And under the ancient ramparts of the castle, which stands proudly, the lake spreads out majestically. Bathed in calm and surrounded by flourishing nature, it invites you to relax. The place is like a fairytale.
Treat yourself to the peace and quiet of following trails and signposted paths for your greatest pleasure, whether on foot, on horseback or by bike!
