A village with a rich heritage

Celles

Set between peaks and valleys, Celles is a real gem. Pleasantly wooded and flowered, the heart of the village shelters limestone buildings with diverse and original embellishments. It exudes a certain charm. Discover the Collegiate Church of Saint-Hadelin and its crypt, a masterpiece of Roman art and an Exceptional Heritage of Wallonia. On the heights stands the Saint-Hadelin Hermitage. To get there, take the Stations of the Cross, which have recently been embellished with a contemporary artistic contribution. The view from here is worth the detour and offers you a pretty postcard of the village: the Roman collegiate church, the stone houses, the square made of ancestral cobblestones, and the meadows at the bottom of the valley carved out by a stream.

A 2 km trail with educational boards takes you on a journey of discovery of these treasures.

There are also other sights to be discovered: the Great Fountain, the German “Panther” tank, a souvenir of the Battle of the Bulge and, two kilometres away, the superb Feudal Castle of Vêves, Exceptional Heritage of Wallonia.

The many establishments in the town contribute to the friendliness of Celles and allow you to discover the local gastronomy, such as the “Chausson Cellois” (rabbit meat pasty) accompanied by a Saint-Hadelin wine.

Like every year, the traditional flea market on 21 July sets the whole place abuzz. A date not to be missed!
