Aubechies is more than a journey through time; it is history reborn in the heart of a living archaeological site, around a rural setting, traditional farms and a prestigious castle.
The journey in Aubechies begins in front of a white mud hut with a sloping thatched roof.
Roman soldiers in red and peasants in white clothes open the door. The fairytale begins.
Arriving in the Most Beautiful Village of Aubechies, we are surprised by the authenticity of the place. The Archeosite is a real, living, open-air museum. This place of archaeological reconstructions allows you to understand the history of civilisations over more than 6,000 years, from the Neolithic to the Roman era.
Right next door, the village is immersed in a flourishing natural environment. The invitation to a journey and a walk continues.
In front of the Saint-Géry church, the place’s splendour is evident. With its red tiles and Grandglise sandstone walls, this Roman church forms a charming and picturesque whole with the former community house and the adjoining school.
Listed houses and farms with character are packed along the route: the Bruyère farm and its dovecote porch, the former Bruycker castle, its English-style park and its vegetable garden, the farmhouse of the Saint-Ghislain abbey etc. A tasting at the Saint-Géry Tavern is a must.
Finally, the journey ends a few kilometres away at the castle of Beloeil.
