Celles: on the tracks of Saint-Hadelin
Welcome to the footsteps of Saint-Hadelin, to Celles, in the Namur Condroz.
Welcome to the footsteps of Saint-Hadelin, to Celles, in the Namur Condroz.
This 2.2-kilometre walk, which combines Romanesque art and romanticism, takes you through the heart of the town.
The high point of the rue de l’Ermitage makes for a pretty picture postcard: the hermitage, the church, the meadows at the bottom of the valley where the Saint-Hadelin stream flows, and on the opposite side of the valley, the leafy woods, the Bel Air district and the Chauvremont promontory. The little squares around the church, and the traditional limestone houses with their flowers and trees, give the village a lot of charm and friendliness.
Take time to discover the original decorative elements: the old doors, the finials, the metal anchors and clasps, the locks, the shrines, the knockers, the window wells… Other curiosities are worth a visit: the Great Fountain, the “Panther” tank, the romantic Vêves castle… Has this stroll whetted your appetite? Would you like to taste a “Celles Chausson” accompanied by… a Saint-Hadelin wine!
