In the surrounding landscape, the mausoleum stands out with its massive volume and the copper colour of its dome contrasting with the light grey of the limestone.

Built in 1906, it houses the graves of the Thomaz de Stave and Mesnil de Volkrange families, owners of the Vierves-sur-Viroin castle.

The imposing octagonal building sits at the centre of the cemetery, perpetuating the social hierarchy of the world of the living in the realm of the dead. Its position in the axis of the main alley and the fineness of the details accentuate this setting and reinforce the impression of majesty.

The mausoleum of the Counts of Hamal is a valuable monument of the funerary heritage and therefore deserves special protection.
