A Molignée’s pearl

The meanders of the picturesque Molignée give life to the village: the limestone houses, typical of the Condroz valley, are found here and there along its main street and, all around, the steep inclines of the Ranzinelle Mountain put Sosoye in a real green setting. On a small hill, some buildings catch the eye: the 18^th century church of the Nativity, a listed building with rich and beautifully restored furniture, the presbytery, and the 17^th century tithe barn, also listed. Intimately linked to the village life of the past, this imposing building with its orange-red roof creates its shadow against the green landscape of Sosoye.

Another particularity is the old village school where the last teacher immortalised his last little devils playing in the playground on the pediment. The place is crossed by the old Tamines-Dinant railway line, but its use is now just a distant memory. Instead, today, the track is used by railbikes, which take the brave pedestrians from Falaën to the old station of Maredsous. It’s a slower way of getting around, but it gives you the opportunity to admire the valley’s beauty…
