The Old Lime Tree - My
In the heart of the village, the Old Lime Tree stands tall.
In the heart of the village, the Old Lime Tree stands tall.
In the heart of the village, an old lime tree with a circumference of almost 4 metres stands tall!
Widely spread in our regions, the lime tree was traditionally planted in the centre of the village, around churches, chapels or in squares and welcomed crowds and debates in the shade of its foliage.
Sacred in traditional cultures and associated with many myths and legends, the lime tree symbolised friendship, celebration and freedom. An emblem of protection associated with the feminine or protection against the evil eye, some lime trees have become milestones on a route or mark the limits of a territory; others, decorated with a crucifix, have sometimes become places of pilgrimage and devotion.
