Textures, materials and traditional volumetry characterise this old Ardennes farmhouse.
Set up perpendicular to the street, this old building offers an abundant variety of textures and materials used in the region. Rough plaster, cut French stone, thick shale and wood combine to affirm its presence.
This old farmhouse is fully in keeping with the traditional Ardennes composition: its simple and squat volume encloses three narrow and deep cells under a roof of slate. These uncalibrated slates were set in a bed of clay. The high weight of this roofing requires a low roof slope and a high strength of the framework. In order to prevent slippage, lignolets, slates ending in arrowheads, close the ridge by interlocking their heads.
