The must-sees

  • Old Presbytery: In the enclosure formed by the church and the cemetery, a classical limestone house was remodelled in the 18th century.
  • Old Mill (18th c.): In the peaceful valley of l’Hermeton, a vast listed development comprising a mill, dwelling, outbuilding, millstream, wheel, dam and sluices
  • Old Quarries: From the end of the 18th century, extraction of the once famous red marble and limestone
  • Ancient views of village life: Boards installed in the village with photos of life in the past
  • Hermeton Valley: A site of great biological interest “Natura 2000”

In the heart of the Namur Fagne

Nothing can disturb the calm of Soulme: located in a beautiful green environment, the village is set on a hilltop, far from the noise of the main roads. When you approach, the massive tower of the church of St. Columba is the first thing you see. The listed church dates back to the 11th century, bordered by chestnut trees. In the foreground, the quiet streets bring a serene atmosphere to the village.  The roughly fifty houses, clustered around the church, date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Made of limestone or covered with traditional whitewash, topped with a slate roof, they are simple and form a harmonious core, where a few farms still exist to mark the seasons.

Among the remarkable buildings is the pretty mill of Soulme, whose current building dates from the 17th or 18th century, a former presbytery and the former “ferme des Moines” (monks’ farm). Soulme is the ideal starting point for rural walks. In fact, it is a must-do activity in the location and its surroundings: trips through the woods or across the fields, on foot, by bike or on horseback, there is something for everyone! The paths in the Hermeton valley are numerous and pass through breathtaking scenery.
