Wallonia benefits from a great diversity of landscapes. The 8 regions that comprise it demonstrate the variety of our terroirs, landscapes and natural settings in which the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia are located, from the Pays de Herve to the Lorraine, including the Condroz, Famenne, the Ardennes, etc.
In a contrasting landscape, the Ardennes has vast, undulating plateaus, shared between farmland and forests, with forested perimeters carved out by deep valleys
The Condroz looks out over a rural setting dotted with crops and pastures in an undulating countryside of crests and valleys.
Framed by the horizons of the Condroz and the edge of the Ardennes plateau, the landscape of Fagne-Famenne is covered with meadows in a peaceful relief, punctuated by wooded hills
The Hesbaye region owes its richness to the quality of its soil. This is witnessed by the many quadrilateral farms scattered across this lowland landscape in a backdrop of crops.
The Lorraine region is the southernmost in Wallonia and is characterised by a succession of hills and depressions. This landscape, marked by a relief of “cuestas”,is its distinguishing feature.
Known for its many quality products, the Pays de Herve is a land of bocages. The landscape is sprinkled with hedgerows and orchards and is characterised by livestock farming.
The Hennuyer silt plateau is covered with vast expanses of crops and is set in the gentle undulations of a relief heralding the Flanders plains.
The association Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie (The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia) oversees a network of 32 villages, bearers of a strong territorial identity and reflecting traditional architecture. It is committed to promoting the rural, cultural and natural heritage of Wallonia and is a part of the development of local and responsible tourism.
