The history of Nobressart is intertwined with the destiny of the County and then the Duchy of Luxembourg.
Incorporated into the Burgundian Netherlands, the Duchy successively became a Spanish and then an Austrian possession. In Nobressart, the mill still bears the traces of its Austrian past. A remarkably well-preserved cartouche bearing the double-headed eagle with two crowns, the initials M(arie) T(hérèse) and the year “1776”, bears witness to the Austrian empress’s desire to build mills on Luxembourg soil.
Over time, the building has undergone several modifications and extensions (particularly in the 19th century). Its current appearance is a complex of buildings curiously arranged between the courtyard and the holding pond where the mill canal ends, at the back.
It ceased to operate in 1968.
