The Pont de Claies in Laforêt
Inherited from the tobacco planters who used to reach the cultivated land along the river, the illustrious bridge of claies casts its graceful silhouette over the Semois during the summer.
Inherited from the tobacco planters who used to reach the cultivated land along the river, the illustrious bridge of claies casts its graceful silhouette over the Semois during the summer.
A few steps from the village, the Semois lazily meanders through the meadows, between the slopes covered in forest. When the sunny days arrive, the illustrious “Pont de Claies”, the last representative of its kind in the valley, can be found.
This rustic bridge made of wood (claies) was only used during the low water period and was used by the tobacco growers who thus reached the cultivable land along the river without making a diversion. It is therefore dismantled at the end of the summer and reconstituted the following spring.
A picturesque walk across the Semois that should not be missed under any circumstances!
