Gobertange stone
The stone of the villages of the "Vallée Blanche"
The stone of the villages of the "Vallée Blanche"
Since the 16th century, a light beige stone has been extracted in the vicinity of Mélin, more precisely in the hamlet of Gobertange.
This sandstone, known as Gobertange stone, adorns many houses in the surrounding areas with its warm and luminous tones.
The name “White Country” describes the geographical area where the villages are concentrated, dominated mainly by the beige colour of this renowned stone, which is used on buildings such as the Town Halls of Brussels and Leuven, Saint Michael’s Cathedral, etc.
