In the middle of the milling season, a miller who had set up long the Aisne river was short of water for making his mill work. Satan proposed him to build a dam in only one night if he sold him his soul. As he was a good countryman, the miller agreeded to give him his soul only the next morning, after the work was done. When, the devil called the miller at cockcrow for paying his courage, he saw ariving only the miller's dog. As Satan saw he had been taken in, he got out of his mind with anger and he destroyed his hight-work within a few moments only. As he was exhausted, he came and rest, lying on the stone that is called "the Devil's bed" since then. The rests of the infernal dam can still be seen in the hamlet of Roche-à-Frêne
