In the heart of the vast forest of the provincial domain, a small relief with a door hides… an old-fashioned freezer… In this vast cavity of 80m3 dug around 1860 and restored in 1973, ice cut with a saw on the neighbouring pond was stored during the winter. Thanks to a number of tricks (three doors facing north, careful mineral insulation (bricks, stones, earth, charcoal, sand, natural slates), protection by the shade of trees), the ice was kept there for a long time. The inhabitants and villagers benefited from it all year round, for various uses, especially food preservation. From now on, it is the pipistrelle bats that take advantage of the icehouse for their hibernation!
