Chameleux Gallo-Roman, site

Description

Like a roman soldier at Chameleux and Williers! Opposite the lake in Chameleux are the ruins of a Gallo-Roman inn for soldiers and travellers on the road from Rhiems to Trier, built around 45BC during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Next door is a pretty café-restaurant serving local specialities (including trout and ham) and Orval Abbey beers and cheese. A few yards further along the road, across the border in France is the hamlet of Williers, set on a ridge crossed by a wall built either by the Celts or the Romans. The hamlet’s single winding street ends in front of a small church.
